Stratford 1912 Commercial Trade Directory
History of Stratford in 1912
Stratford History index
This is quite a large listing of commercial activities by 1912. I also find this time quite pertinent because it is two years before the wholesale slaughter of millions in the First World war. It was a long time ago, so I have no argument with the nations involved, time moves on.

I am quite open about the fact that many died because of the stupidity of the Upper Classes, whom received their commission because they purchased the same, not that this is indicative of all Upper Class people - some are cleverer. The officers who made the soldiers leave their trenches, and run across an open field of mud, whilst being mowed down by the new machine gun.
The poems of Wilfrid Owen, a war correspondent whom died a few days before the end of the war are indicative of the horrors of this period of time. My favourite poem of all time is 'Dulce Decorum est Pro Patria Mori'. This roughly translates from Latin into 'It is a great and wonderful thing to die for ones country' - the poem describes a soldier drowning in chlorine gas.
Anyway, here is Stratford in 1912, listed alphabetically, I am sure large numbers of these listed perished in the Great war of 1914- 1918. Stratford was a major Territorial centre and Recruiting area for the Armed Forces.
Best Broadband Providers in the UK - tested in October 2010.A very strong recommendation for a Gas Safe engineer in Essex is N R Heating who fixed several gas leaks in my home today. The work was very professional, totally committed to safety and quality; plus the price was very competitive. New boiler installation was also another brilliant service. A very high class recommendation for a Gas Safe Engineer in Hornchurch. And Last updated on: Wednesday, 15-Sep-2010 11:38:32 BST
