The year of 1912 was not significant, it was a year after King George V (1911 - 1935) came to the throne, and for the next twenty five years. The gold sovereign was still legal tender, with a 'gold standard' still in operation. The first major World war of the twentieth century was two years away, when millions of our youth were to lose their lives in the foul trenches of the French and Belgian battlefields.

Moving to modern times, the 1911 census has just become available for geneologists, and the Olympics is to be held in Stratford, East London and other areas of the UK in 2012.
